True sincerity is a mind that accepts sufferings and inconveniences in life with joy and without worry. The path of true sincerity is a difficult path. Who among us can accept suffering and inconvenience with joy? How can we accept the actions of those who want to hurt us, even when we realize that they reflect what we ourselves have done in previous lives due to causality (karma, innen)? Who can accept the rejection of someone who once loved you? How can one not show anger, disdain and disappointment? How can we not feel sorry for ourselves, succumb to our self-pity, and lash out to the people who we feel cause our unhappiness; some when faced with inconvenience try to seek solace in drugs, and other illicit activities.
In the Heaven’s Truth Church (Tenrikyo), God confirms that the path of true sincerity is a difficult path; because suffering and inconveniences have a tendency to bring out the worst in us. But if we accept these self-inflicted inconveniences with joy, we can by the law of causality produce a better future. By our actions and thoughts of today, we create our future. The narrow and difficult path becomes a broad and easy path of God’s blessings. But who among us has the strength and faith in overcoming these adversities?
